What Search Can I Use to Retrieve my Property Taxes

If you have your parcel number and you want to retrieve information regarding your Secured, Supplemental, Prior Year and/or Secured Taxes Transfered to Unsecured Property Taxes, use the Parcel Number Search.

If you only have your property address and you want to retrieve information regarding your Secured, Supplemental, Prior Year, Secured Transfers to the Unsecured (mostly mobile homes and time shares) and Unsecured Property Taxes, you may use the Address Search.

The Tax Collector Reference Number Search, the Tax Year and Assessment Number Search, the Lien Number Search, the Boat Registration Number Search and the Aircraft Registration Number Search will yield Unsecured Property Tax information only.

How do I Use the Address Search

To retrieve an address within the County of Orange, California, type in the street address, then hit the corresponding Find Button. For example,

999 Civic Center Drive

or

1234 Bristol

or

1234 Harbor Blvd Unit 100

Although selecting a City in the drop-down list is optional, it may help narrow down your search. The downside of specifying a City is that there is always the danger of not specifying the correct City, thus yielding a unsuccessful search.

Getting the Most out of the Address Search

Addresses are searched by matching the address you input with records from the Treasurer-Tax Collector database. This is done by identifying keywords in the address you input and matching these keywords with records in the database. Since the keywords may not be unique, there may be cases when a single address will generate more than one search result. Furthermore, even though an address can be input in several different formats, most of them follow a common pattern such as the following example:

123 Midway Street Unit 110

Pattern: {address number}{street name}{type of street}{unit or suite}

The Search uses this format as the guideline; it is recommended, therefore, to input addresses using this guideline for better results.

The first thing that the routine does is check to see if an address number and street name has been input. These two are the required information; the rest are optional.

Street names can be a little confusing. Someone may input 'Midway Street' when they really want to have 'Midway Lane'. Other times, only 'Midway' is input as the street name -- which is actually the better alternative if unsure about the street suffix. If the type of street or street suffix is left out, the search casts a wider net by matching on just "Midway".

The search results are always presented in a list. The user needs to click on the desired address from the resulting list to go to the property tax information for that address.

Why is My Address Not on the Search Results

Locating a specific address using the method described above (in Getting the Most Out of the Address Search) is somewhat an inexact science. If you entered an address or looked up a business and did not get a match, try the following troubleshooting steps:

•Ensure that you have entered the right address and that every word is spelled correctly. The Search does not attempt to correct errors in the spelling of street names and street suffix abbreviations. However, you'll get the best results if you spell the address correctly.

•Ensure that the city code you keyed in is correct. If you are unsure, do not select a city.

•If you are unsure of the street suffix or the directional prefixes (East, W, So, North, etc.), please do not key this data in the Search database. Our Search will find a match in most cases if you omit directional prefixes and street suffixes.

Note: If you are still not finding your property after trying the suggestions above, the address may not be associated with any property the Assessor's Office has on record. Please call the Assessor's Office at (714) 834-2727 or go to www.oc.ca.gov/assessor/.
